ENERGY AND SUSTAINABILITY

The energy and sustainability industry has become a vital part of the global economy, and its growth and prosperity are key to the advancement of technology and industrialization. The industry plays a crucial role in providing products that are key to many other industries—everything from the manufacture of food and drugs to construction materials to textiles is dependent on energy and sustainability. The industry has been expanding rapidly, but it needs to be aware of upcoming challenges that could have an impact on its future.

In terms of energy, the production of hydrocarbon-based fuels has been at an all-time low for many years, but there’s a growing demand for them. The price wars between oil exporting countries have only contributed to this problem. This is a serious problem for these companies because their business depends on oil and gas production. With many companies depending on revenue from the sale of oil and gas, it’s essential that they explore new ways of doing business that will allow them to survive in the long term.

The green hydrogen market is growing rapidly with the increased focus on energy and sustainability. More countries are accepting the idea of moving towards renewable energy and there is a lot of interest in hydrogen as a fuel source. Green Hydrogen technology has been around for decades, but it’s only recently that we’ve been seeing it used more frequently—especially for transportation.

In response to these changes, Energy, Chemicals and Industrials companies must be able to react quickly to shifts in the market, keeping their strategies flexible during times of supply and demand disruption. They must also be able to identify opportunities for growth in new markets as they emerge and seize them before the competition does. In order to succeed today, Energy, Chemicals and Industrials leaders must prepare for the emergence of new raw materials which create entirely new procurement categories as well as master those categories quickly.

Understanding feasibility in adoption of Lithium ion batteries

Client’s requirement:

When looking to invest in lithium ion battery technology, an automotive company wanted to understand the feasibility of its adoption. A lead acid battery, more prevalently used in its motors, was already being used by other manufacturers to provide the electric vehicles with a range of 50 miles per charge. The technology was readily available but the cost of replacement batteries was high and the life span of these batteries were short. Lithium-ion batteries were seen as a more viable option for EV’s, but had yet to be adopted at scale by any manufacturer. The company needed to understand how quickly adoption would happen and what effect it would have on the overall system cost and performance.

Our Solution:

The research team at The Expert Point took a deep dive into the batteries market to understand identify the relevant companies who have a prominent market share in lithium ion batteries. They looked at both the battery manufacturers and end-users,to connect with related subject matter experts from our Global Expert Network. The shortlisted experts were screened on the project scope post which they provided an in-depth analysis on  lithium ion battery technologies and comparing them against lead acid batteries. The results showed that the lithium ion batteries had less capacity degradation and therefore lower replacement costs over time than their lead acid counterparts did. Because of this, our experts recommended that the client begin using lithium ion batteries in their ev vehicles. They also modeled out possible scenarios for both the short-term and long-term future for them and identified areas where they could decide for themselves which path to take.

Result:

The Expert Point’s team of experts were able to  make an accurate estimation of the prospective returns from investing in Lithium-ion batteries over lead acid batteries. The client was able to come up with efficient methods for using this new energy source by taking into consideration all of the specialists’ recommendations and advice.Although there were many other factors involved in the decision to invest in this eco-friendly technology, it was clear that the safest bet for our client was to follow our experts’ advice.
